RKF provides engineering expertise for the conceptualization, development, and improvement of satellite systems, including geostationary and non-geostationary satellite constellations and high altitude platform systems (HAPS). Throughout the project's lifecycle, we apply our RF engineering expertise to develop communications protocols, space and ground-based beamforming capabilities, and static user terminals and mobile handsets required by satellite networks. In parallel to these efforts, we perform RF engineering analyses and end-to-end systems simulations to ensure that our solutions work before the first unit is even manufactured and deployed.
RKF has developed a next-generation flexible high throughput satellite (HTS) architecture for GEO and non-GEO satellite systems. We envision that this system will eventually provide coverage over the entire globe, supporting 100+ Gbps data rates.

In parallel to these efforts, we perform RF engineering analyses, antenna modelling, and end-to-end systems simulations to ensure that our solutions work before the first unit is even manufactured and deployed.
RKF is currently modernizing a line-of-sight RF distribution system for the US Navy to support multiple simultaneous ship-to-ship, ship-to-shore, and ship-to-aircraft communications in the VHF and UHF bands. This hardware modernization effort will support dozens of simultaneously transmitting/receiving digital radios aboard current and future Naval ships, aircraft, and manpacks. For this project, we are currently assisting and/or leading the program management, systems engineering, vendor selection/oversight, design, maintenance, and life-cycle support processes with the Navy.
RKF designs a wide variety of hardware for terrestrial and satellite networks. Our work covers every layer of detail within the wireless communications industry; we design individual components, such as processors, end-to-end systems, such as modular RF distribution devices, and entire network architectures, such as high throughput satellite (HTS) technologies. Because our design capabilities span the entire project's life-cycle, we never lose focus on ensuring that we achieve success once the final product is deployed, regardless of the current phase of development.
Currently, we are working with SEAKR Engineering, Inc to design beamforming and channelizing processors. Paired with our work developing next-generation HTS technologies, these processors are a critical technology on the path to creating satellite communications networks, such as the Iridium NEXT constellation.
RKF works in all stages of the engineering project life-cycle. After the delivery of the product, hardware or software, we continue to support our clients by advocating for their access to spectrum resources at regulatory meetings and providing continued maintenance and support.
RKF conducts high-level design trade-offs to optimize the system to meet our clients' needs. Throughout this phase, we develop RFIs, RFPs, SoWs, bidder negotiations, evaluation criteria, and draft contracts.
RKF generates end-to-end system models to determine key performance values, such as capacity, availability, and QoS, of promising designs. Throughout this phase, we support design reviews, perform feasibility assessments, and produce concept of operation, architecture, and system requirements documents.
RKF creates and reviews test, verification, and validation planning for subsystems and end-to-end systems alike. Throughout this phase, we assess test results for non-compliance and recommend optimal solutions.
RKF offers deployment and launch support services, as well as field testing for operational verification. End-to-end system models generated earlier are used during this phase to support business planning and deployment options to enable clients to achieve optimal performance.
